About Clinical Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is a very effective form of therapy as it bypasses our conscious critical thinking mind, which is the part that allows negativity and doubts. It works directly with our unconscious mind (the emotional and creative part of us). This is sometimes the only part which is aware of the reasons that we hold on to unwanted thoughts, behaviours and habit patterns. This is where the invisible walls of resistance recede. It is the part of our brain that serves to protect us and wants only what is best for us.

Hypnotherapy helps to replace negative thought patterns with more positive and beneficial beliefs to enable us to live happier, more fulfilling lives. There is ongoing research, though relatively new, into the field of psychoneuroimmunology (the mind body connection) which is beginning to explain the effectiveness of hypnotherapy.

Clinical Hypnotherapy is safe and very effective with children due to their natural creativity and use of imagination in every day life. Usually results are quicker with children due to their natural motivation and enthusiasm for change and progress. (Parents are always present).

How does Clinical Hypnotherapy work?

Have you ever been so engrossed in a book that you have been unaware of what is going on around you?

Have you ever driven somewhere and then not really remembered your journey?

Or watched a tv programme and not heard somebody calling you even though they are physically within hearing distance?

If you have answered yes to any of these then you have experienced a light trance state. This is a natural state that we all drift into, several times a day.

As a facilitator, the therapist guides you into a deeper trance state where the unconscious mind is in a highly alert state and receptive to POSITIVE suggestion for change. The conscious mind steps into the background to allow this good work, whilst the body remains in a very relaxed state. The therapeutic outcome for each session is decided by the client, with some guidance from the therapist, before the hypnotherapy starts.

  • It is work done on a highly individual basis to fulfil the client’s goal.
  • Practitioner and client work together.
  • The number of sessions varies depending on the depth of the presenting problem but usually a guide is between 3 and 6 sessions.
