Chiropractic Successfully Treats Headaches

The Cause and Treatment of Headaches

Whilst many people know about the benefits of chiropractic treatment for low back pain, neck pain and mid back pain, some may be unaware of the vast array of other problems our Chiropractors in Poole can help with, for example, headaches.

There are a large number of different types of headaches. The two most common types include:

1. Tension headaches

These are usually described as a pressure like band around the head and are most commonly caused by physical or emotional stress.

2. Migraine headaches

Can be severe pain, which is usually described as pulsing or throbbing. Sufferers may also report nausea and visual disturbances. There are many factors, which may trigger a migraine such as physical stress, nutritional deficiencies, emotional stress, changes in hormone balance, lack of sleep and dehydration. In the vast majority of migraine cases, cervical (neck) joint restriction and muscle tightness and trigger points are present.

At Lilliput Health our team of chiropractors can address the abnormal motion in the joints in the neck as well as the surrounding muscles.

In some migraine cases, certain foods may trigger the development, for example, caffeine, aged cheeses, chocolate, processed foods, red wine, alcohol and artificial sweeteners.

How to treat headaches?

Our chiropractors in Poole have found that in order to successfully treat headaches, especially in the case of migraine headaches the approach should include:

  • Manipulation to the joints of the neck, to restore normal joint motion and reduce muscle tension.
  • Muscle and soft tissue work to the muscles of the neck and upper back.
  • Low-tech exercises/home stretches to improve posture and provide support to the head and neck.
  • An anti-inflammatory diet with appropriate nutritional supplements (most commonly magnesium).

If you or anyone you know are suffering from headaches of any type, then send them along to have a free 15-minute consultation with one of our Poole based chiropractors who will be able to determine whether it is a case which can be helped by chiropractic care.
