What is Clinical Pilates?

Clinical Pilates is taught by physiotherapists and designed specifically for rehabilitation. The traditional Pilates exercises are broken down into clearly defined levels to ensure a gradual progression toward regaining normal and functional movement. Exercises are tailored and modified specifically for your individual needs and goals, which helps to prevent injury and optimise your recovery.

What to expect during your Pilates assessment:

  • The appointment will be carried out by one of our APPI trained physiotherapists.
  • A detailed medical and physical history will be taken including any previous or existing injuries.
  • You will be guided through a physical and postural assessment. This will include any current injuries as well as establishing your general baseline of mobility and strength.
  • Your physiotherapist will explain the 5 key elements of Pilates including how to correctly engage your deep core and pelvic floor muscles.
  • You will work together to establish short and long term goals, which will allow your physiotherapist to create a program unique to you as you move through your Pilates journey.
